My research training began with a field project studying the relationship between social dominance and condition among pronghorn. After receiving a MS in Zoology at the University of Idaho, I studied the population biology of mosquitoes in the Livdahl Lab at Clark University. For my dissertation, I researched population biology and evolution of rhabditid nematodes. Subsequently I recieved a NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship to work on bacteriophage phi6 in the Turner Lab at Yale University. I also was trained in the phage lambda system in the Wang Lab at University of Albany. My career has demonstrated a distinct downward trend in organismal body size as I realized how smaller organisms are more amenable to research on evolutionary and ecological questions.
